Mary Scheffke

Director and President | Chicago French Bulldog Rescue

mary@frenchieporvous.org
Born and raised in Chicago, Mary Scheffke first encountered French Bulldogs, or Frenchies, at an IKC dog show. After her first encounter, which left her covered in Frenchie kisses and completely in love with the breed, Mary knew she had to bring these incredible dogs into her life. A professional dog trainer by day, Mary first began her career in the industry at age 8. After encountering Frenchies for the first time nearly 10 years ago, Mary quickly became an expert in the breed, offering her training knowledge to those who participate in her Chicago French Bulldog Meetup and beyond. Mary founded and launched the Chicago French Bulldog Rescue in late 2007 in response to a growing need. With a strong network in Chicago, launching the Rescue was a natural progression. Many Frenchies are found homeless as a result of health problems or families who can no longer care for them, and after establishing the Rescue, assisted Frenchies now have hope. Through creating and building the Rescue, Mary hopes to educate those involved with Frenchies and raise awareness about the breed.

A retired EMT, Kathy fills her days at home, caring for her three Frenchies: Neo, Trinity and Josie, the latter which was adopted through the Chicago French Bulldog Rescue. Kathy’s family also includes two Golden Retrievers who are therapy dog certified and who volunteer often.
